This rye whiskey is an old “Kentucky style” of rye that utilises a higher percentage of corn in the mash bill. Made from select American rye grain that is sheared to maximise the extraction of flavour from the grain, every bottle of Michter's US *1 Rye comes from a single barrel. Named to honour Michter’s heritage harkening back to America's first whiskey company, founded in 1753. Born and bred in Kentucky, Michter's US*1 Kentucky Straight Rye is made from select American rye grain that is sheared to maximise the extraction of flavour.Originally founded in Pennsylvania in 1753 by John and Michael Shenk, legend has it that then-General George Washington visited the Shenks' distillery in 1776 and bought supplies of whiskey for his troops during the cold winter at Valley Forge, leading to the claim that Michter's was "the whiskey that warmed the American Revolution". The 10-Year Rye, 10-Year Bourbon and 20-Year Bourbon expressions reflect the exceptional results of uncompromising craftsmanship and Kentucky’s unrivaled climate for aging outstanding whiskey. TASTING NOTES Deep notes of vanilla and toffee, toasted almonds and cinnamon with an ample dose of crushed pepper and a hint of orange citrus. Not only the sight in the sherry glass / nosing glass of this US whiskey - whiskey bewitch the spirits lover. This single-barrel rye is full to the brim with inviting and spicy flavours, sure to entice any whiskey lover.You can expect notes of sweet toffee, cherries and subtle spice leading into a creamy finish with a beautifully dry, oaky finish. Michter’s US 1 Kentucky Straight Rye is also available with personalized Fort Nelson Select labeling at Michter’s Fort Nelson Distillery. Entering the barrel at a lower proof of 103 actually costs Michter’s more money than a higher proof in terms of warehousing however Michter’s believe this produces a Kentucky Rye Whiskey which is richer and smoother. Each barrel of rye is selected by Michter’s Master of Maturation when it reaches maturity, usually between five and eight years. Often significantly older than the age statement on the label, only a select few barrels age with the elegance required for inclusion in these highly limited releases.

Each bottle of this small batch rye comes from a single fire-charred new American oak barrel, and is presented at 42. Tasting Notes: Fresh and approachable with a touch of mintiness to help balance the aromatic spices thus typical of rye. All spirit at Michter’s is distilled using copper column and pot stills before entering the barrel at 103 proof.Their aim was simple: to honour the Michter's legacy by producing the best whiskey possible, cost be damned!
