About this deal

Additionally, thanks to the tweeter’s dispersion, taking the Revel Concerta2 M16 out of the corner of the room pays off and allows them to show what an impressively wide and open sound stage they can produce. The upshot of this is that toeing in appears more to do with personal taste than necessity here. SA10, CDS50, Revel Concerta2 M16 Review Although they’re more difficult to manufacture, cabinets with curved sides are inherently stiffer than cabinets that use flat panels, and also have fewer internal resonances than conventional ‘box-shaped’ cabinets. The cabinets also have internal bracing to reduce the possibility of enclosure-induced colouration.

Listen further to material like this and the ‘fingerprint’ of the Revel’s aluminium drivers does make itself felt in some aspects of the tonality. Compared to my resident Acoustic Energy AE1 Classics that really do have a ‘metal’ signature to their performance, it is benign but it is there nonetheless. Listening to the Revel side by side with the Spendor A1 - still one of the most affordable speakers to offer a genuinely ‘Monitor’ performance from 100Hz and up - and the Revel can’t match the effortlessly ‘right’ sense of tonal realism that the Spendor can. How much this is going to bother you is somewhat subjective - I could happily live with it and I suspect that most people could too. The primary purpose of ribbing on any surface is to increase the rigidity of that surface, and that’s exactly what is taking place here, with Revel saying that in this case, the increase in rigidity enables the cone to “achieve ideal, piston-like behaviour, eliminating a major source of resonances that are audible in most loudspeakers.” The Concerta2 cabinetisn't quite as sophisticated as those on Revel's pricier Performa3 models, but its design and execution are more advanced than you typically find in this price range. The curved side walls create astiff enclosure that forms a solid foundation for Revel's custom-designed drivers, as well as contributing to the M16's sleek looks. In parts of the audio industry, there is a belief that all components from wires to electronics to loudspeakers need to “break in.” Out of the box, it is assumed that they will not be performing at their best. Proponents vehemently deny that this process has anything to do with adaptation, writing extensively about changes in performance that they claim are easily audible in several aspects of device performance. Yet, the author is not aware of any controlled test in which any consequential audible differences were found, even in loudspeakers, where there would seem to be some opportunities for material changes. A few years ago, to satisfy a determined marketing person, the research group performed a test using samples of a loudspeaker that was claimed to benefit from “breaking in.” Measurements before and after the recommended break-in showed no differences in frequency response, except a very tiny change around 30–40 Hz in the one area where break-in effects could be expected: woofer compliance. Careful listening tests revealed no audible differences. None of this was surprising to the engineering staff. It is not clear whether the marketing person was satisfied by the finding. To all of us, this has to be very reassuring because it means that the performance of loudspeakers is stable, except for the known small change in woofer compliance caused by exercising the suspension and the deterioration—breaking down—of foam surrounds and some diaphragm materials with time, moisture, and atmospheric pollutants. High frequency response is supported by 1 inch aluminum dome tweeters that were derived from Revel's Performa3 series. Low/Mid range frequency response is supported by 6.5 Aluminum cone woofers featuring low-distortion motor-structures for greater clarity and accuracy with improved sensitivity and output capability. The SA20 is the most affordable offering to come sporting Arcam’s Class G amplifier topology, delivering just under 20 of its 90Watts in Class A @ 8Ohms. I did find that I could appreciate the M105's treble, just very clean and detailed without a hint of that "crispness" that defines a fake hifi speaker. Truly smooth highs.

Digging up an old thread, as I just took delivery of the C205 speaker. Being that it's on sale, I had to take advantage of this, and finally replace the 18 year old Polk LSiC. Changing things up with Raidohead’s Hail To The Theif and, even at the most confusing points, the teamwork of the CDS50, SA20 and Revel Concerta2 M16 proved to deliver an engaging performance. As soon as we pressed play on the Classic Yoyo album we dropped into the CDS50 we were delighted with the combination’s natural and well-detailed presentation. The cello’s lower register is smooth and warm while piano keys, in particular, are articulate. The M16's 1" aluminum dome tweeter sits in Revel's concave Acoustic Lens waveguide, which increases the tweeter's dispersion at higher frequencies, and also helps create a more seamless match between the tweeter and the woofer just below it. The result is very smooth, consistent sound both on-axis and off-axis, creating a larger sweet spot. An advanced cabinet forms a solid foundation Records the default button state of the corresponding category & the status of CCPA. It works only in coordination with the primary cookie. The Class A/B amplifier’s delightfully warm midrange gives keys and strings a sumptuousness while adding a pleasing naturalness to vocals that many in this price band sacrifice in favour of forced clarity.
